In August of this year, Amazon is shutting down its app store on Android devices. The company notified developers that they would no longer be able to submit new apps to the platform.

Additionally, Amazon shared on its support page that it would also be discontinuing its digital currency, previously used for purchasing games and apps in the store. They stated, “Starting August 20, 2025, you will no longer have access to the Amazon Appstore on your Android device. We will also be discontinuing the Amazon Coins program on August 20, 2025.”

Despite this closure, the Amazon Appstore will continue to operate on its own devices, like Fire TV and Fire Tablets. Amazon also mentioned that it would refund any coins held by users as of August 20. They observed that only a small fraction of customers utilized the app store outside of Amazon's devices.

A company spokesperson explained, “We’ve decided to discontinue the Amazon Appstore on Android to focus our efforts on the Appstore experience on our own devices, as that’s where the overwhelming majority of our customers currently engage with it,”
